Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Are Helix Mattresses Good
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Are Helix Mattresses Good

Construction Are Helix Mattresses Good
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Are Helix Mattresses Good
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Are Helix Mattresses Good
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
