Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress

Construction Can You Flip A Helix Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Can You Flip A Helix Mattress
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models sound right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Can You Flip A Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
