Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Can’T Sleep On Helix

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Can’T Sleep On Helix

Construction Can’T Sleep On Helix

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Can’T Sleep On Helix

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Can’T Sleep On Helix

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Can’T Sleep On Helix

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
