Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Casper Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Casper Mattress Vs Helix

Construction Casper Mattress Vs Helix

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Casper Mattress Vs Helix

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you may always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Casper Mattress Vs Helix

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Casper Mattress Vs Helix

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
