Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Bed Sheets Review

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Bed Sheets Review

Construction Helix Bed Sheets Review

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Bed Sheets Review

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Bed Sheets Review

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Bed Sheets Review

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
