Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Blended Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Blended Mattress

Construction Helix Blended Mattress
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Blended Mattress
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Blended Mattress
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Blended Mattress
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
