Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Construction Helix Dawn Mattress Review

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Dawn Mattress Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
