Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Dawn Mattress
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dawn Mattress

Construction Helix Dawn Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Dawn Mattress
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Dawn Mattress
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Dawn Mattress
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
