Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Dual Mattress
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Dual Mattress

Construction Helix Dual Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Dual Mattress
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options sound right, you could always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Dual Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Dual Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
