Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Construction Helix King Mattress Dimensions

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix King Mattress Dimensions

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
