Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Assembly
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Assembly

Construction Helix Mattress Assembly
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Assembly
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Assembly
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Assembly
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
