Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Back Pain
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Back Pain

Construction Helix Mattress Back Pain
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Back Pain
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options seem right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Back Pain
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Back Pain
Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
