Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Bad Reviews
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Bad Reviews

Construction Helix Mattress Bad Reviews
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Bad Reviews
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Bad Reviews
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Bad Reviews
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
