Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

Construction Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Bed Sheets

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
