Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Box Spring
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Box Spring

Construction Helix Mattress Box Spring
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Box Spring
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Box Spring
Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
