Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Break In Period

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Break In Period

Construction Helix Mattress Break In Period

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Break In Period

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Break In Period

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Break In Period

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
