Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Construction
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Construction

Construction Helix Mattress Construction
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Construction
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models seem quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Construction
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Construction
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
