Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Construction Helix Mattress Customer Support

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Customer Support

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Customer Support

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
