Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

Construction Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Dual Comfort

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
