Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Firmness
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Firmness

Construction Helix Mattress Firmness
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Firmness
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Firmness
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Firmness
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
