Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Foam Density

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Foam Density

Construction Helix Mattress Foam Density

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Foam Density

Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you can always check out the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Foam Density

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Foam Density

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
