Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Founder
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Founder

Construction Helix Mattress Founder
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Founder
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you may always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Founder
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
