Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Manufacturer

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Manufacturer

Construction Helix Mattress Manufacturer

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Manufacturer

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models seem right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Manufacturer

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Manufacturer

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
