Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Materials
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Materials

Construction Helix Mattress Materials
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Materials
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Materials
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Materials
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
