Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Problems

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Problems

Construction Helix Mattress Problems

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Problems

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Problems

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Problems

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
