Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Protector Review
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Protector Review

Construction Helix Mattress Protector Review
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Protector Review
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these models feel quite right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Protector Review
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Protector Review
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
