Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Protector

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective variant gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Protector

Construction Helix Mattress Protector

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Protector

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you may always check out the 4 other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Protector

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Protector

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
