Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Return Experience

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Return Experience

Construction Helix Mattress Return Experience

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Return Experience

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Return Experience

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Return Experience

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
