Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Sheets

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Sheets

Construction Helix Mattress Sheets

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Sheets

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Sheets

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Sheets

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
