Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Sinking

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Sinking

Construction Helix Mattress Sinking

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Sinking

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Sinking

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Sinking

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
