Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead

Construction Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you may always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Sleep Like The Dead
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
