Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Too Hot
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Too Hot

Construction Helix Mattress Too Hot
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Too Hot
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Too Hot
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Too Hot
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
