Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Toxic

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Toxic

Construction Helix Mattress Toxic

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Toxic

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these options seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Toxic

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Toxic

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
