Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Tracking

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Tracking

Construction Helix Mattress Tracking

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Tracking

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Tracking

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Tracking

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
