Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Trial
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Trial

Construction Helix Mattress Trial
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Trial
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you’re likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Trial
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
