Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Vs Purple

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Vs Purple

Construction Helix Mattress Vs Purple

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different models (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Vs Purple

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you may always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Vs Purple

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Vs Purple

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
