Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress

Construction Helix Mattress
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
