Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattresses Reviews

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattresses Reviews

Construction Helix Mattresses Reviews

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattresses Reviews

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always check out the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattresses Reviews

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattresses Reviews

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
