Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Nightfall Mattress
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Nightfall Mattress

Construction Helix Nightfall Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Nightfall Mattress
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you could always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Nightfall Mattress
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Nightfall Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
