Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Side Sleeper
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Side Sleeper

Construction Helix Side Sleeper
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Side Sleeper
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these options feel right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Side Sleeper
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Side Sleeper
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
