Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Bloomberg
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Bloomberg

Construction Helix Sleep Bloomberg
All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Bloomberg
Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Bloomberg
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Bloomberg
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
