Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

Construction Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep.Com/Ben

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
