Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Complaints

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Complaints

Construction Helix Sleep Complaints

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Complaints

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models sound right, you could always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Complaints

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Complaints

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
