Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep/Crooked
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep/Crooked

Construction Helix Sleep/Crooked
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep/Crooked
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep/Crooked
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep/Crooked
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
