Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Construction Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you may always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
