Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Like The Dead
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Like The Dead

Construction Helix Sleep Like The Dead
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Like The Dead
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you could always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Like The Dead
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Like The Dead
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
