Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

Construction Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Nightfall Review

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1″ or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
