Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Order Status

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Order Status

Construction Helix Sleep Order Status

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep Order Status

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Order Status

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Order Status

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1″ or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
