Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Construction Helix Sleep Pillow Review

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models seem right, you could always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
