Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Shapiro
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Shapiro

Construction Helix Sleep Shapiro
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Shapiro
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound right, you could always check out the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Shapiro
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Shapiro
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4″ apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
